Mesh filter bags provide precise surface filtration with a defined pore opening — and unlike felt, they can be washed and reused. Universal Filters manufactures nylon monofilament (NMO) and polyester mesh bags from 35 to 800 microns in all standard bag sizes, with FDA-grade mesh available for food and beverage straining.
When to Choose Mesh over Felt
- Defined particle cutoff — monofilament mesh has a woven, uniform opening; nothing larger passes.
- Reusable — wash out the cake and put the bag back in service; ideal where solids are valuable or disposal is costly.
- Product recovery — capture and reclaim solids rather than absorbing them into depth media.
- Low fiber shedding — no loose fibers migrating downstream.
For high dirt-holding capacity or sub-35-micron ratings, felt filter bags are usually the better choice. Unsure? See the micron ratings guide or call us.
Mesh Media
| Media | Common micron ratings | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Nylon monofilament (NMO) | 35, 75, 100, 150, 200, 250, 400, 600, 800 | The standard mesh bag; excellent strength and abrasion resistance |
| Polyester multifilament (PEMU) | 150–800 | Economical straining; softer hand |
| FDA-grade mesh (NMO-FD / PEM-FD) | various | Food, beverage, and bottling service with certs on file |
