Filter Bags by Beverage
Beverage producers ask for the same filtration in different vocabularies. Typical starting points we quote — all available in FDA-grade media:
- Wine — coarse lees and pomace fines with 100–400 µm washable mesh; pre-bottling polish with 1–25 µm felt or high-efficiency bags.
- Beer & brewing — trub, hop debris, and dry-hop carryover with 100–400 µm mesh; brightening with 10–50 µm felt.
- Cider — pulp and haze solids with mesh first, then 10–50 µm felt as the finish tightens.
- Spirits — barrel char and cork fines with 10–50 µm felt; tighter polish where the spec demands it.
- Sake & rice wine — lees fines after pressing with 50–200 µm mesh; pre-polish clarification with 10–25 µm felt.
- Juice, tea & kombucha — pulp, culture, and botanical straining with 100–400 µm mesh; clarifying at 25–100 µm.
Maple syrup and honey deserve their own line: felt straining of niter (sugar sand) in syrup and mesh straining of wax and comb fines in honey are classic duties for our tie-on and drawstring bags — sewn to your tank and pail dimensions, FDA media throughout.
Material Notes
- FDA compliance: specify FDA grade when ordering — media and construction (including thread or welded seams) are then all food-contact compliant. Ask for compliance documentation with your order if your QA program requires it.
- Reusable mesh: monofilament mesh bags wash out and go back in service — a real cost advantage in straining duties where the solids load is coarse.
- Metal detection programs: if your HACCP plan restricts metal parts, ask about plastic-ring bags instead of steel rings.
- Temperature: hot-fill and CIP temperatures matter for media choice — tell us your process temperature.
