Marine Filtration

Marine filtration problems come down to two fluids: water with oil in it, and fuel with dirt in it. Bag filtration handles both — in engine rooms, at fuel docks, and in shipyard wash-down systems — with hardware simple enough to service at sea.

What We Recommend

Application Media Typical starting point
Bilge water — polishing oily water Oil Magnet® oil-absorbing bags Binds free & mechanically emulsified oil while filtering solids
Fuel transfer / fuel polishing Felt, polyester 10–25 µm
Ballast & seawater service Polyester felt or mesh 25–100 µm
Shipyard wash-down / stormwater Felt; oil-absorbing where sheen is the issue 25–50 µm
Hydraulic & lube oil clean-up Felt, tight rating 5–10 µm

Practical Notes

  • Oily-water sheen is the classic marine compliance problem, dockside or offshore. A standard particulate bag passes oil straight through; an oil-absorbing bag holds it in the bag for disposal.
  • Salt service: specify stainless rings — standard carbon steel rings don’t last in seawater duty. Plastic rings are another option.
  • Simple beats clever at sea. Bag change-out needs no tools and no calibration — one reason bag housings persist in engine rooms. Keep spares aboard in the right size.
