Chemical processing is where media compatibility stops being a footnote and becomes the whole question. The right bag depends on what’s in the batch — pH, solvent, temperature — and on whether you’re throwing the solids away or getting paid for them. We’ve been specifying bags into chemical plants for four decades; tell us the chemistry and we’ll tell you the bag.
What We Recommend
| Application | Media | Typical starting point |
|---|---|---|
| Batch clarification, aqueous systems | Polypropylene felt | 10–50 µm |
| Solvent-borne products | Polyester or polypropylene felt (chemistry-dependent) | 10–50 µm |
| Catalyst recovery / product recovery | Mesh (solids stay recoverable, bag is washable) | 50–200 µm |
| High-temperature streams | Nomex® felt | Rated well above polyester limits — call to spec |
| Final polish before packaging | Felt or high-efficiency multi-layer | 1–10 µm |
Media Compatibility, Short Version
- Polypropylene: the default for acids, alkalis, and most aqueous chemistry; lower temperature ceiling.
- Polyester: better temperature tolerance and abrasion resistance; avoid hot caustic.
- Nomex®: for streams too hot for either.
- Nylon mesh: excellent strength for recovery duties; check compatibility with strong acids.
Ring and collar hardware options (steel, stainless, plastic) follow the same logic — tell us the chemistry and we’ll match the hardware too. Unusual vessel or adapter head? Custom bags to your drawing are routine work.
